The food merchant Georg Sedlmaier (born in 1945) founded the IG FÜR (Association FOR Healthy Food) in 1997. Georg Sedlmaier worked for the Dallmayr chain of Delicatessens in Munich, the supermarket chains Rewe, Edeka, and for the Feneberg Lebensmittel in Kempten before joining the board of directors at tegut… gute Lebensmittel in Fulda 15 years ago.
At Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey, on the Pacific coast of the United States of America, my wife and I ordered some very fine fish for our evening meal. At the next table sat a family who also ordered the same fish, but that wasn’t all. We became curious when a large bottle of ketchup arrived at their table. The whole family covered their fish with ketchup. As business minded people we thought these people could easily have ordered much cheaper fish because everything must have had the tast of ketchup anyway. At that time we were not so aware of the various artificial flavourings and flavour enhancers which can become addictive.
This experience made us think.
Does it make you feel the same way?
My idea: - I wanted to found a multifaceted association of public figures from various professions, backgrounds and age-groups who would be able to work creatively in a positive, future oriented, challenging and informative manner regarding food quality and nutrition. The former German minister Ignaz Kiechle (†) found this idea very good and became the first competent patron.
